Ammonia is a compound of nitrogen and hydrogen with the formula NH3.  It is normally encountered as a gas with a characteristic pungent odor.  Ammonia contributes significantly to the nutritional needs of plant organisms by serving as a key fertilizer.  Ammonia is a key building block for the synthesis of many chemical compounds.  It is also used as a refrigerant fluid in industrial scale applications.  Ammonia can be catalytically dissociated to create a reducing gas composed of 25% N2 and 75% H2 by volume.  It is typically stored and transported as a compressed liquid in large steel vessels.
